 Public Forums

The Wind and Prairie Task Force held two public involvement forums to provide information and solicit public input about options, guidelines, and tools to help in the decision-making process related to the siting of wind-energy projects in the Flint Hills.

The forums were open house format, with no formal presentations. Those interested may arrive anytime between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m., visit information tables, talk with task force members, and make comments.

Written comments can be mailed or emailed to task force co-chair Jerry Lonergan (ATTN: WPTF, Kansas, Inc., 632 Van Buren, Suite 100, Topeka, KS 66603; jerry.lonergan@ksinc.state.ks.us). To be included in task force deliberations, comments must be emailed or postmarked by May 3, 2004.

    Public Forum #1 - Manhattan
    Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters
    Large Assembly Room
    2000 Dennison Ave. (corner of Dennison and Kimball)

    • Directions: From Highway 177, take Tuttle Creek Blvd. north to Kimball Ave.; go west (towards the football stadium) on Kimball and turn right when you get to Dennison Avenue. The Fire Department Headquarters is on the corner.

    Public Forum #2 - El Dorado
    Butler County Community College
    Kansas Room, 1500 Building

    • Directions: From the Kansas Turnpike, take the South El Dorado exit, which puts you on Highway 254. Turn left (east) on 254/Central and continue approximately 2 miles to the first stoplight at intersection with Haverhill. Turn right (south) on Haverhill and continue for about one mile to next stoplight, where you'll see the Butler County Community College campus on your right. Continue straight on Haverhill to the main entrance to the campus; turn right (west) and park near the 1500 Building, the tallest building on campus.
